For Sale Signs

If you're using a Real Estate Agent to sell your house, then you probably don't have to worry about putting up a For Sale sign. Your agent will do that for you. But if you're selling your house on your own, then you'll need to find a sign that's right for you.

Recent advances in dynamic printing technology have made ordering custom For Sale signs economical and worthwhile. You can order a sign with a personalized message and have it shipped to your door in just a few days. But there are many choices to be made, including the material, design and color of the sign. So we have provided this page to answer a few questions about the types of signs that are available, so that you can find the one that's right for you.

Materials

Custom sign printing companies can print on a variety of materials. The material will affect how professional the sign looks, how well it stands up to the elements, and its cost.

Some common materials include aluminum, hard plastics, coroplast and wood. You can get For Sale signs from your local hardware store that are made from thin plastic, and usually anchored by metal wire or a thin wooden steak. But we recommend against this. It's important, if you're selling your home on your own, that you appear serious and professional to prospective buyers. A flimsy, cheap sign will not impress them.

Most people know what aluminum, hard plastic and wood signs are like, but have never heard of coroplast. Coroplast is like corrugated cardboard but made from plastic. It's very cheap to manufacture, and thus makes cheap signs, but stands up well to the environment and is fairly sturdy. It is usually the cheapest option, but does have its drawbacks. It doesn't look quite as professional as a nice aluminum or hard plastic sign. But it certainly is a viable option.

Size

You can order custom sign designs in many different shapes and sizes. We recommend a sign no smaller than 18" x 24". It's important that potential buyers can read the sign clearly from their cars as they drive past, and a sign that's too small just looks unprofessional. It is worth the extra money to have a reasonably sized yard sign.

Color

Many sign printing companies charge per color on the sign. A single-color Real Estate Sign may seem unprofessional, but it's usually not worth it to include more than 2 or 3 colors. Keep your sign design simple and tasteful. Most custom sign printing companies will have templates for you to follow. We recommend you pick one of these and fill in your own information.
